Vegas Finally!

The DH and I got to Vegas last night. I can't believe we are here and married. The wedding was amazing. Everything went perfectly. The SIL tried to cause some problems after the ceremony, but we ignored her. The DH hurt his back when returning the helium tank, nothing serious but I missed picture day dealing with that and traveling. So here goes our first kiss as a married couple, better late than never...

My Friday!

Yay! Today is my Friday at work. I only have to make it through 6 1/2 hours more. Then I don't have to come back until September 30th. I can't wait.

Some of my co-workers gave me a bridal shower on Tuesday. It was sooo nice of them. I had a great time AND I got my thank you cards out this morning. Their generosity overwhelms me.

At the beginning of the summer, my cousin and bridesmaid, Donna, asked if I would be willing to go see Sylvia Brown. I don't watch Montel and I have never seen her before, but she is hilarious! I laughed so hard. Donna thought she was going to be here in the beginning of September not three days before the wedding! I still have a lot to do but I agreed to go and would not back out on someone at the last minute like that anyway (especially since she bought the tickets). I ended up having a really good time although I spent half the time writing thank you notes to my co-workers. I understand it is her farewell tour, but if you can go, I highly recommend it. She is great. She did a guided meditation that I loved. I wonder if she has it on a CD. Must go check it out...

Eight days and counting...

until the wedding!!

Unfortunately, the nasty future SIL is causing problems again. I don't know if she is schizophrenic or just a pathological liar. Here's a recap of her craziness:

1. Announced she was getting married and that we were having a double wedding on Valentine's Day (Yech!!), when DH and I were not even engaged yet.

2. Stole the colors and flowers I had picked out for our wedding and used them in hers.

3. Demanded that her brother drive an hour out to her house on a Saturday night without me, so she could tell him how awful I am and not to marry me (he did not go without me).

4. Stopped talking to her mother because she is nice to me and went to my bridal shower. However, when her mother asked her if that is the way she wanted her new MIL to treat her, the answer was an emphatic no.

5. Tells her family and my DH's friends that I am a controlling b*tch and other things.

6. Said horrible racist things about Native Americans at her Fourth of July party.

7. Called me after my wedding shower (July 19) and said she wasn't coming to the wedding or family events, I could have them. Told me that my DH and I could kiss her a**, said "Goodbye b*tch" and hung up. My DH was standing next to me and heard everything she said. I didn't say a word to her then, because she said she wasn't coming to the wedding and that's what I wanted. I didn't have to be the unreasonable one.

8. Called her mother that night and said the same things to her.

9. Told her kids that they can't come to the wedding because we are being mean to her.

10. Called her father last month and cried to him about how she is not invited to the wedding. Got him upset and involved, demanding we invite her until his wife stepped in and told him that was not his place.

11. When her father couldn't make us budge, she went to DH's work and told his boss and co-workers how she wasn't invited, none of his old friends were invited and that I was controlling my DH (his friends are all invited except her and one other guy he grew up with. Why she would want to consider that man's feeling is beyond me. He is in his late 20's and was calling, trying to date her 11-year-old daughter!!)

12. Finally called my DH yesterday and said she wanted to come to the wedding. Didn't apologize for ANYTHING except for saying she wasn't coming to the wedding. Blamed everything on me, said I caused all the problems and now their parents said she can't come to any family events (lie- she told her mom after the bridal shower that she wasn't going to attend any family activities anymore). Blamed the people at my DH's work on trapping her into saying those things; she only went there for a fishing license, even though she lives an hour away.

My DH told her that he didn't know if he wanted her at the wedding and would have to think about it. After all that, I was willing to compromise as far as she could come to the ceremony but not the reception. THEN I find out she called their father yesterday and said the same nasty crap about me and complained that she is having problems with her 10-year-old son because he really wants to attend the wedding, but she's not letting him go unless she can. I mean she told her father no when he asked if they could pick up the grandkids and take them to the wedding. She is using her kids as weapons against her family, my DH's mom has not seen or talked to the kids since the Fourth of July. I do not know what to do about her attending the wedding...

There is more, but my eye is threatening to explode. Must go knit something...

Ravenclaw

I'm so excited I was accepted into Hogwarts and sorted into Ravenclaw (whew! I was worried!). We have a House-elf that is in need of a name. I think we should call her Twee (cute and dainty).

DH Jealous?

Saw this on Lizzie's Blog...

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...

Mrs. Lupin

You like a nice, kind guy with a bit of a fierce streak and you don't mind if he comes damaged. Sure, he may take some convincing since his self-esteem's so low, but once you win him over, you know he's yours for life. Unless of course he has an attack of "I'm not good enough" and runs away, but luckily he's also good at making friends who will push him back into line if necessary.

Waiting...

I signed up for HSKS6 at 1am this morning. I'm freaking out because A LOT of new people were signing up and wanted Ravenclaw. I signed up an hour after new student signup opened and I'm worried that it was too late.

Anyway, yesterday was Staff Service Day at my work. We spent the day volunteering at Second Harvest Heartland, which is a nonprofit that distributes food to food shelves, partner agencies, and people who need help securing food for their families. Having worked at various human service nonprofits including four years at The Salvation Army, I thought I was pretty well immune to their heart tugging development practices. Now don't get me wrong, I feel for people in need, but it is the animal agencies that cause me to well up and want to give (and bring resuced chihuahuas into my home; however, that is a whole other story!) Second Harvest did what seemed to be a mini POE (Point of Entry, a fundraising tactic developed by Benevon - formerly Raising More Money.) They showed a short video called "Faces of Hunger." OMG, I had tears and so did like 20 other women from the office. We work for one of the largest community foundations in the state. We get emotional funding requests from nonprofits everyday!

The video had the stories of three people and why they use the food shelves. The first guy was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy and his wife was a drafter who got laid off because of the downturn in new home constructing. There was an elderly lady who lost her husband and their farm. Her new rent and utilities took up her tiny income and left no money to buy all the food she needs. The third story involved a stay-at-home mom whose husband left her and their small children. The stories were extremely compelling, but what got me were their amazing stats. For every $1 donated, the organization is able to buy over $9 worth of food and a $100 donation could feed a senior citizen for FOUR months. Being Native American, taking care of our elders is exceptionally important. I was ready to pull out my check card right there and donate $100. In fact. My first thought was "I wonder if they accept debit cards." The only thing that stopped me was the thought that my dh would kill me for spending that two weeks before our wedding, when we barely have enough to cover all those outrageous expenses.

Please check out this fantastic organization. Greg Page, the CEO at Cargill said that with the globe's current calorie production, we are the farthest we have ever been from famine. Which means there is a distribution problem and that is solvable.

Mass Exodus

Things are supposed to get bad tonight. A lot of offices closed early. There was a memo sent from Mears Park to surrounding businesses to get their employees out of town before 4 pm.

Cold Snap Legal said on twitter that "the police are threatening to clear the streets by 5 pm." Police in full riot gear are all over the city.

One of my friends said that she say tow trucks lined up right outside of downtown.

Traffic was crazy as people tried to leave. Buses are full. Our entire bus is packed front to back with people standing.

Patty and I walked to Rice Park at lunch today like everyday this week. There were way more people than there has been. Anyway, here a some more pics.

p.s. Yes those ARE Zubaz!! (oh the horror!)

Crazy Protesters!!

The RNC is in town.

Yesterday, there was a small group of protesters that broke off the main group and became violent. They smashed windows at Macy's (why? why? oh for the love of everything holy, why damage our only downtown department store?), slashed tires, started a dumpster on fire, and injured some of the delegates. One 80-year-old man was treated for injuries. What is wrong with people? That is somebody's grandfather.

Then they want to cry that the police used excessive force. WHATEVER! People like that drive me crazy. They wanna run around howling about their right to freedom of speech, but become the oppressors when others have a different opinion.

The RNC Welcoming Committee wants to disrupt not only the convention and the delegates, but also the everyday people who live and work here. They have threatened to block key intersections, bridges, and other targets; including, buses, hotel and airport shuttles.

Anyway, enough of my rant. Here are some pictures of what is going on here.
